25th anniversary of the buckyball

The Buckminsterfullerine molecule was first discovered 25 years ago by a group of scientists at Rice university, Texas, and named after the architect Richard Buckminster Fuller, noted for popularising the geodesic dome. A fullerine is any molecule made entirely of carbon


The unusual spherical arrangement of the molecule led to the nickname of 'Buckyball', scientists have since gone on to discover buckytubes, nanotubes, megatubes and nano 'onions'.


The unique chemistry of the family of particles have been widely researched for use in electronics, nanotechnology and many of other fields of science

But what is a Buckyball? You might have heard about balls such as a basketball, volleyball, football, etc. but how about a buckyball? Buckyballs are spherical fullerenes, a molecule composed entirely of carbon. Buckyballs are named after Buckminster Fuller, who popularized it. The discovery of buckyballs and fullerenes in general greatly expanded the number of known carbon allotropes, which until recently were limited to graphite, diamond, and amorphouscarbon such as soot and charcoal.


Buckminsterfullerene or “buckyballs” for short, have been the subject of intense research of scientists and chemists, both for their unique chemistry and for their technological applications, especially in materials science, electronics, and nanotechnology. Buckyballs is one of the tools used in nanotechnology which are useful in the field of medicine. The Doctors can use buckyballs in gene therapy to send genes into human cells. In space, astronomers first discovered about buckyballs in NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope.

‘Bale Pandiya’ Audio Launch Today

The audio launch AGS Entertainment’s ‘Bale Pandiya’ will be held today 18th April at Satyam Cinemas, Chennai.


The Audio Launch will see noted lyricist Vaali, director K S Ravikumar, A R Murugadoss, Parthiban, Cheran, S P Jananathan, K V Anand, Mysskin, Music Director Harris Jayaraj and lyricist Thamarai.


Directed by publicity designer for many movies, Siddharth Chandrasekhar, ‘Bale Pandiya’ is a summer treat from the AGS Entertainment stable.


‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu’ fame Vishnu and Piya of ‘Poi Solla Porom’ fame are the lead pair in the movie along with a couple of new comers.


Sources say the movie is about wits showed in an entertaining way. Music is handled by singer Devan Ekambaram and cinematography by Soundarrajan and R.B Gurudev with choreography by Dinesh.

rajinikanth daughter marriage photos

Southern superstar Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya wed Ashwin, a Stanford graduate, here on Friday. The typical Brahmin ceremony was organised at the Rani Meyammai Hall in Chennai. Invitees belonging to the film industry, business world and politics attended the high profile ceremony, a television 


report said.
Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and other high profile guests were reportedly present at the wedding.


Union Home Minister P Chidambaram also blessed the couple, but had to leave early for an urgent meeting in New Delhi.


Ruling Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) party members were also there. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi also attended.


The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader Jayalalitha did not attend the wedding as she was in the Kodanad hill station for assembly poll related work.


In a statement, Rajinikanth said he wanted to invite all of his fans to his daughter's marriage; but was unable to do so because of space constraints and logistical problems. He said, however, that he wanted their blessings for his daughter.

Rajinikanth himself supervised all wedding related arrangements.


He reportedly has gifted a new apartment to the couple.

Pancharangi movie review

 No doubt, South Indian movies make a good business in Southern part of India, as compared to Bollywood movies. Watching Kannada film 'Pancharangi' in theaters will be worth your money. The movie is based on a humorous love story. 


'' Director Yogaraj Bhat deserves all the credit for making magic on screen out of nothing in a special innovative way. The film starring Diganth and Nidhi Subbaiah in the lead roles highlights the duo's humorous acting and facial expressions.


The film boasts of Raju Talikote's comedy, Mano Murthy's music, Yogarj Bhat's dialogues and screenplay, Mayuri Upadhyaya's choreography, V Thyagarajan's camera work, and beautiful locations of coastal area.


'Pancharangi' is a simple story focusing on basic aspects of a human life in an Indian society like parents, friends, goals, success, failure, love, marriage, and kids.


The story revolves around a lazy boy (Diganth) and his feelings along with his love story. Along with his parents he goes to see a girl (Ramya Barna) for his brother (Pavan Kumar)'s marriage, who is a software professional in the US. 


There he meets girl's cousin Ambika (Nidhi Subbaiah), who is playing a role of a naughty girl. The equal nature and attitude brings the girl closer to the boy and she fell in love with him. The climax of the film pushes the audience into puzzle.


This time Diganth appears in unique get up revealing a lot of maturity in his performance, that is plus point for him to hold his fans' attention for some time. Similarly, actress Nidhi Subbaiah possesses the capability with her role to make an impact on the viewers. Movie looks dull void of comedy and Raju Talikote's performance successfully rocks the film.


South movies cannot be complete without songs and dance. The film boasts of two melodious music compositions like title track 'Are Re Pancharangi...' and 'Udisuve...’


Apart from the performances in the film, camera and the locations take the credit for attracting the audiences into the film. As the title of the film denotes five colours, the director has successfully justifies representing five aspects of life with colourful background.

gayam 2 movie review

The latest movie “Gaayam 2”, it is continuation of blockbuster Telugu movie Gayam (1993) and it is an action thriller based movie in which Jagapathi Babu and Vimala Raman playing the main lead roles. This movie hit in the theater today.


The story begins with Ram (played by jagapathi babu) who runs a coffee shop in Bangkok and he has a happy family in the form of his wife Vidya (played by vimala), son and brother in law (harshavardhan). Things take a twist with the arrival of Shankar Narayana (kota prasad) with his lawyer (tanikella). They believe that Ram is none but Durga, the arch enemy of Guru Narayana (kota). They come up with different effort to confirm if Ram is Durga but Ram persists he is not so.


The cast and crew of this movie are: Jagapathi Babu; Kota; Vimala Raman; Tanikella; Kota Prasad; Harshavardhan; Ajay; Tarzan; Nagesh; Ravi Kale; Jeeva; Revathi; and Siva Krishna. The film is directed by Praveen Sri. The music of this movie is given by Ilayaraja.


The film happens to be a continuation to the original movie ‘Gaayam’ which came many years ago. Although the 1st half was a lift from a Hollywood film, the 2nd half was great in connection and it syncs well with the audience. While there were hiccups in the emotional graph and few critical scenes, overall the pace and the narration make it watchable. At the box office, this should be an above average comedian and if word of mouth goes appropriately then it will be a hit.


The online trailers are also available on some websites. Many experts given the overall rating of this movie are 3.0/5.

Konkona Sen Sharma -Ranvir Shorey

The talented actress Konkona Sen Sharma is all set to tie the knot with her long-time boyfriend actor Ranvir Shorey.
The tentative wedding date is September 3. Both Ranvir and Konkona have been dating each other for the past three years and have been living in together.

It's all about loving your family: A famous quote by Karan Johar that gave enough fodder for teasing and spoofing his emotional stance!

Quite natural, then, for Johar to adapt Hollywood's Stepmom into a Hindi multi-starrer and naming it We are Family.


The characters live in Australia, yet constantly speak impeccable Hindi. It's a spooky world where little girls are gifted tiaras and wands, and the boys (wearing glasses, naturally) are presented books and telescopes. The demarcation is clear; and the story cements itself as an old-fashioned, sexist one.


We see divorced couple Aman (Arjun Rampal, half-awake) and Maya (Kajol) at their child's school annual day. Their little girl Anjali (cute as a biutton, Diya Sonecha), in the middle of the act on stage, spots her mom in the audience and says 'Mama, hiii!'. It’s a touching moment, and the film has a few more.


Aman's character is a mixed one: He's clearly not a hands-on dad, preferring to meet his three children over the weekends. He also insensitively chooses little Anjali's birthday to introduce his new girlfriend Shreya (Kareena Kapoor) to the family.


So while you dislike him for a display of insensitivity to everyone in his life, you admire his faithful friendship towards his ex-wife, even as he drops everything to be with her when she's diagnosed with a terminal illness. Maya then hits upon the idea of warming up her kids to Shreya whom they hate, so she can take over as their replacement mom.


But the dialogue is a let-down. Each character keeps saying, "Tum aisa nahin kar sakti, you can't die," to Maya, as if it were a choice.


And then, when Maya is convincing Shreya to give taking care of the kids a shot, Shreya shoots back, "Main ek career-woman hoon, mom-type nahin." It’s a ridiculous bit of dialogue; outdated and one that an entire span of working mothers will wonder over.


Again, the whole trip about the urgency of finding a substitute mother is strange when they have their father hale- and-hearty. It again reinforces the cliche that you need another woman to pack the kids' lunch and pick them up from school, and the father, however he may love the kids, just can't manage.


The reason why Karan Johar choose an average film made 12 years ago, among several path-breaking Hollywood films, is clear. It has amble potential to bring out the tears.


And this film is an unabashed attempt at extracting your sniffs and sobs, and sometimes the effort at doing so is too apparent.


The manipulation shows in scenes like the one where the kids are ushered in to see their mother, all tubes and pipes, on a hospital bed. The strategy works; you do cry but not whole-heartedly, more as a reflex response to the sobbing faces onscreen. In fact, you might let out a tired laugh when the effort goes overboard.


The drone about the teen child who everyone keeps saying will be the "most beautiful bride in the world" is bizarre. Their obsession with this 13-year-old's marriage takes a new height when the film chooses to fold with it, where we see an aged Rampal, and an exactly-the-same Kareena (in this biased Bollywood trend where women simply don't age; another example: 3 Idiots) at the wedding of this girl.


The Kareena-Kajol combo is explosive, and the high-point of the film. Their altercations are delicious; one wishes there were more such complexities instead of the syrupy gloop. You care about Maya's character in the first place (the only character that really makes an impact) because no one can exude a warmth, and smile as expressively, emotionally, widely, and honestly as Kajol. Kareena’s character is a bit wobbly with inconsistencies. But the actress is in full form, brimming with fire. Arjun Rampal gives a damp performance.


Debut director Siddharth Malhotra serves us old wine in a new, expensive bottle. It's evident in the characterisation, the dated dialogue, and the choice of the heavy-duty background score where you hear a woman's alaap for the most part; a mainstay in our saas-bahu soaps. If you’ve been pining for an old-fashioned tear-jerker, this one's for you.


Verdict: 2.5 stars
